Time Warner Inc.'s Turner Broadcasting on Monday launched GameTap, a new online video game network that for $14.95 a month offers subscribers unlimited game downloads and original programming.

GameTap said the service also delivers a new outlet for publishers to sell everything from classic arcade games to titles for game consoles and personal computers.

"GameTap creates a new window and revenue stream for developers and publishers beyond the traditional first retail release," said Stuart Snyder, GameTap's general manager.

At launch, the new broadband entertainment network has about 300 games from 24 publishers, including market leader Electronic Arts Inc., Activision Inc., Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., Atari Inc., Capcom Co. Ltd and SEGA.

GameTap has said it plans to expand its catalog of games to more than 1,000.

"Our goal is to create the ultimate gaming network -- a one stop shop -- for everyone from the casual gamer to gaming experts," Snyder said.

GameTap's original programming will include reality and lifestyle shows as well as game previews and interviews with game industry luminaries and celebrities.

GameTap requires a high-speed Internet connection.
